| Who is the dealer?
The responsibility of the dealer rotates between each player following every single hand. When you play Hold'em poker online then you can have the software managing who does the dealing.
Each player will be nominated as the dealer in turn. On screen you see this as a white disc or a particular marker next to the dealer. Another term for this in poker lingo is being on the button.
The strength of the dealer
Being the dealer is an advantage in playing because you have the advantage of seeing everyone else take their move before you act. This is the same advantage that a casino gets on the blackjack table.
For example, on the poker table, you might see that most of the players end up folding, so your odds of getting a win become so much better.
After every hand is dealt, the dealer is switched clockwise so that everyone gets to share in the advantage. As the dealer button moves around, the big blind and the small blind also move around. This means that everyone gets to take advantage of being the dealer and of the blinds as well. |
