Rules of play – The River

Rules of play The River

After the fourth street sequence has been completed, the dealer again discards the top card of the deck. Once the top card has been burnt, the dealer then deals one final card that is placed face up on the table. This is known as "going down to the river", or simply the river. The river card is the last card to be dealt and is added to the community cards, to be used in building the hands of each player.

After the river card has been dealt, the players remaining in the hand make another round of bets, again beginning with the small blind or the first player to his left who is still in the hand. And once again, players can either check, call, raise, re-raise or fold during their turn to bet. Once this sequence has been completed, each player reveals his hand and the strongest hand wins.
