Play on the Button at Holdem Poker

How to play on the button at Holdem Poker

Being on the button is the strongest position in Holdem Poker. Here you are king of the hill, able to act last and watch everyones actions before deciding on your own. Ah, it is good to be the king.

The position of power

While you are in the royal seat, you are able to abuse your power and exert a tax known as stealing the blinds on the other players. How do you do this? Read on and discover how you can become the table tyrant.

If everyone at the table folds, or perhaps you get a limper or two, and the action comes to you on the button, what do you do? Look at your cards and join the limpers? If you think that is what you should do, then please go stick your head in the microwave oven right now.

You should not be ruling the table with a benevolent hand from the dealer position. You must learn to wield an iron fist and crush your opposition mercilessly.

Raise it up

If you found yourself in the dealer position, with a single limper before you and everyone else folded, then you should take advantage of the weakness shown and raise the pot. Why? Well the blinds know they are going to act first in subsequent rounds and will likely face subsequent bets from you, so they will probably to fold. The limper, who has already acted weak by limping in, will also fold to your show of strength and you will pick up both the blinds and the limpers money without any effort.

Trouble in the royal court

Of course, it doesnt always run that smoothly. Sometimes the big blind will be holding a pair of kings and will re-raise you. Such is the lot of royalty  they must often face rebellion. However, that re-raise will occur a lot less often than everyone folding, so in the long run you will make a steady profit.

Also you might find the limper is actually feigning weakness when they really have a monster hand. Normally this occurs with limpers who act early on. They know if they raise from that position, everyone will figure they have a big hand and fold, meaning they dont make any money from the hand. So they try to trap someone (normally the button) into making a raise which they then pounce on. So beware early limpers when trying this tactic.

Dont fall into a pattern

Remember that if you raise every single time you are in the dealer position, your opponents are going to cotton on to your larcenous intentions very quickly  and they will act accordingly. So do apply the practice, but just not too often as to become predictable.
